Every day, 1-2% of Ukrainians face cybercriminals by phone, e-mail, in online stores, online services with the publication of ads, employment and credit, etc. According to the statistics of losses from illegal actions with payment cards, in the first half of 2020, on average, 546 successful illegal transactions for fraudsters are carried out every day, that is, 23 per hour.
To combat fraud, an online game has been launched in Ukraine, which raises awareness of citizens about the rules for the safe use of payment instruments and services - "Здолай Шахрая!"
This is a simulation game where players are exposed to simulated situations of various types of payment fraud and receive information about the consequences of their decisions and advice on detecting fraud, as well as effective remedies in each situation. By clicking on the card with the image of a fraudulent monster, the player goes through one payment fraud scheme and learns its signs and methods of protection. The game now consists of 56 thematic parts that simulate various types of payment fraud: telephone, ATM and credit fraud, SIM card theft, fraudulent prize draws, polls and online shopping, bulletin board fraud, employment and online earnings, tourism and entertainment, phishing, malware, ransomware, gaming scams and the like.
The game was created by the Ukrainian Interbank Association of Members of EMA Payment Systems with the support of the United States Agency for International Development under a grant provided by the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project.
Since August 30, 2020, when the test launch of the online game "Здолай Шахрая!" took place, 12489 players have already registered in the game during the first ten days, 1610 of them have defeated all or most of the fraudulent monsters, pumping their own cybersecurity and protection skills more than 80 types of payment and online fraud.
